New Fable Game is in Development
Sources of Eurogamer revealed that A new Fable Game is in development at Forza Horizon Studio Playground. This studio makes popular car racing game Forza Horizon for PC & Xbox. According to sources, Fable franchise owner Microsoft, tasked Playground studio to develop new Fable game. In return Microsoft said, they don’t comment on rumors and speculations.
This could be a deceiving answer, as sources also disclosed, Playground studio has set up their new office at Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Solely focusing on this new task, developing Fable game. The game is apparently in early stages of development, company is setting up a team of around 200 people. So, the game is no where near to be seen yet. Previously, Playground has confirmed that it’s working on a new non-racing open-world game, codenamed Project 2.
Talking to Eurogamer, Fable co-creator Simon Carter told
I have slightly mixed feelings,
On the one hand it’s great for the UK games industry, and very pleasing that Fable isn’t dead; indeed, it will be lovely to play one as a punter, without coming out in hives.
On the other hand it is a little curious to get rid of the team that is uniquely expert in making Fable, and then try and make Fable. Fable is a weird game, and a tough one to deconstruct for a new team. That said, the team in question is very talented, and I’m sure they’ll do a fantastic job.
Basically, the game is focused on Open-World Role Play Game genre. The decision behind reviving Fable series is big enough to bring back fans of the series. So, what brings Microsoft to this decision, we ask.
The success of Witcher 3 was enough to change the world’s view towards Open-World RPG games. Later, we got Playstation exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn, becoming another hit of same genre. As Eurogamer also stated that this project is inspired by Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn. Open-World RPG games are a package of everything and in my interests, is the best genre.
Back in 2016, Microsoft closed Lionhead studio which was working on Fable Legend, canceling the game in progress too. But the rights of the game are still under Microsoft and its free to ask any studio to develop their game. Deconstructing an old RPG game and constructing by a new people is a risky step. Let’s just wait for the end results then.
Studio Playground has always been known for their racing games, “Playground would not be abandoning racing games altogether” – company said. No official news from either of the companies has revealed yet, so, let’s just wait our horses.
I, myself, am very happy with this, you, on the other hand, going to let us know in comments below
